Neolithic artefacts
These artefacts were build for an upcoming virtual reality application called Archaeo Viz.
I used Maya, Photoshop and Bodypaint 3D for modeling, texture painting and cleaning seams. More info and texture maps here ahriman3d's portfolio Ceramic pot - Polygon count: 3000 - Texture size: 1024x1024 - Programs: Autodesk Maya 2008, Photoshop CS 3, Bodypaint 3D Ceramic pot - turntable animation Bone chisel - Polygon count: 2496 - Texture size: 1024x1024 - Programs: Autodesk Maya 2008, Photoshop CS 3, Bodypaint 3D Bone chisel - turntable animation Bone piercer - Polygon count:1500 - Texture size: 1024×1024 - Programs: Autodesk Maya 2008, Photoshop CS 3, Bodypaint 3D Bone piercer - turntable animation Bone awl - Polygon count: 1696 - Texture size: 1024×1024 - Programs: Autodesk Maya 2008, Photoshop CS 3, Bodypaint 3D Bone awl - turntable animation Bronze celt - Polygon count: 1734 - Texture size: 1024×1024 - Programs: Autodesk Maya 8.5 , Photoshop CS 2 , Bodypaint 3D Bronze celt - turntable animation |
Some nice work there with really clean meshes, and the only real crit I have would be the addition of too much geometry on some f the more plainer objects.
All in all good work. |
I was required to do 3 LOD versions for each object.
1. 1500 polygons and 512x512 texture map 2. 3000 polygons and 1024x1024 texture map 3. 5000 polygons and 2048x2048 texture map What I have posted above are the first raw versions. |
Looking pretty good.
That body paint program looks pretty interesting, how is the program to use and how is the transition between maya to body paint back to maya? |
very nice texture work.

Once the model and texture are finished I open Bodypaint 3D. The process goes like this: 1. Export the mesh from Maya as an obj file. 2. In Bodypaint I import the mesh and the texture map (you can use pdf file format but I like working with jpg). 3. Using the projection painting mode I paint out the seams. 4. Save the texture map from Bodypaint and check it in Maya, if it looks good I'll call it a day. |
