Split Polygon Tool, why so hard to use?

hi, i am trying to build a hand now follow the tutorial
one thing that make me feel really funny is , why the developer make it so hard to use the Split Polygon Tool?

since we are in polygon proxy mode, and we try to split it in "front view (according to tutorial)" but when we click on the top edge of the proxy mode "box", sometime, the software understand me correctly, it knew i want to click on the front top edge, but sometime, it put my click at the back top edge?..

ok, is there any trick or tip in such situation?

use the perspective view to select edges.

thanks kablink,
but doesn't it a little bit hard to do it in perspective view?

btw, could i set a view (which like front view) but allow me to [rotate view] like in perspective view?

or could a perspective window copy a view in "front window" and would let us modify in "perspective window"?

You could always create a camera pointing to the front of the object. The only drawback is that if you alter the view while looking through the camera, you will also be rotating/zooming/panning the camera at the same time. This is great if you want a specific view with perspective added to it. But you will change the camera's position if you alt+anyclick

I find splitting polys much easier in perspective mode. I normally split at 50% to ensure parallel edges, and since Maya automatically snaps you to 50, it makes things easy. Then I can even split the halves some more.

Why add another camera? just use the perspective view. You can always adjust later on in the ortho views. Surely thats not difficult? Thats the beauty of Maya=Speed
