I dont want to confuse anybody.

According to one of those threads, maya used to have an integrated web browser but does not anymore (with recent versions). So I would ignore the fact that those tutorials could be in maya itself, and just use a separate window. Won't make too much difference that I can see.
Alt-tab, or if you can find a cheap second monitor, it works wonders.

Agreed, I use a hand me down Dell 1800FP (18") from work, not a bad little monitor for £0! It's even got an S-IPS panel!

Maya on the main screen, tutorial, outliner, graph editor and render window on the other. Is also very handy when doing texture maps!
