Hey Doc
Cheers Dude!!! Just for that have a gander at this!!! Just downloaded Bonus tools 6, and whoa!!!! It just gets better!!! Some of the stuff for rigging is just neat and some people are gonna love it, I think its good for people who want stuff done there and then without to much farting about, plus theres some good animation stuff in there too!!! Enjoy the pic. Crits as always please!!! Jango |
Hey Jango,
that's one clean mesh!! how do you go about modelling your heads? what method do you use? |
Coming along very nicely indeed Jango! Keep it up :)
|
Ooooh nice! As said before very clean!
|
Thanks Guys.
CB: Just do the box modelling method, and I tend to pull edges around more than points these days as you get form alot quicker and its easier to see while you are doing it, especially while pulling loops about on the cheeks and eyes. I really recommend get MjPolytools plugin for modelling. Jango |
I ain't very proficient with box-modelling, I never seem to be able to add extra detail correctly.
I got mjpolytools a couple of weeks ago, after reading someones post - quite possibly one of your posts. The edge loop doesn't always seem to work for me. But when it does it is very useful!! |
Hi Cb
Not proficient??? Nahhhh!!! I have asked Mike Mckinley about doing a tutorial for the site cos people have been so cool with their feedback but he said no cos they have a head tutorial already. I might do one anyway, in the near future, so if you're interested in trying it out again I can always send you it. Jango |
that would be really cool,
at the moment I create heads by extruding edges - around eye then mouth then form the rest from there onwards. It produces an ok mesh, just I would like to try another method and see which is best for me. |
Once again a awesome model, supremely clean mesh. Looking forward to seeing how she develops. Is this for your Alien character project or a fun side project?
|
Hi Lone pig
Yeah its for the project. Cheers for your comments!! Jango |
I love the clean geometry as well Jango, not a non-quad to be found, great job, I am looking forward to the rest. Plus if you do make your own head tutorial I would love to know of it, even just the wireframes are a great help.
|
I too could do with the tut. The head i'm woking on is a mess.
|
Me too I need all the help I can get :)
|
Whoa supply on demand!!!! I'll start one this weekend and get it done asap cos I need to finish this head too, I'll do my best!!
Jango |

Hey Guys
Heres an update for you to have a look at, lots of tweaking on this one so its taken me a bit longer this time round. Just rebuilt the eyes too!! Right, as far as the tutorial is going, started that this afternoon after watching Van Helsing, that was good fun movie!!! With plenty of eye candy 3d wise!! I'll finish it asap cos I wanna get this done first really, one job at a time I think dont you!! All I ask is get that MjPoly tool plugin!!! You'll thank me after!! Also what did you want to do about posting it cos I know the moderator dudes dont want another head tutorial repeating itself here. Did you wanna leave email addresses and I'll send it personally?? Let me know Jango |
Looking real nice m8. As regards the tutorial depending on size people could send you a blank cd and SAO or find a webhost to use as a temp storage.
|
Hay lonepig. Where in yorkshire are you from?
|
I'm in the sunny, ish, resort of Bridlington. If anybody actually knows were that is you have m sympathy. I must state thought i'm not a native but a horrible hairy invader from north of the border, Longniddry Nr Edinburgh.
I assume you know/are from Yorkshire m8? |
Lonepig: My parents live in Skipton.
|
Yeah Peltra
No probs, will do it when finished. Anyone else?? Jango |

Hi Guys
Just thought I'd drop in and post this update. Started doing the texture about an hour ago or so, so still got a fair bit to do. As you can see the bump map appearing on the test of the texture, its actually a Maya procedural shader, Brownian in fact, and all I've done is adjust it til the scales are small enough so it actually looks something like a skin bump, give it a bash!!! Any hassle I dont mind helping!!! The tutorial demand is high!!! I'll do it asap, cos as I said before I want to finish this first, so all you dudes please hang on a while longer, I'm sure you have other stuff to do at the moment. Vedic Kings; Thanks for your kind words, much appreciated, Once again enjoy the pic Later Jango |
NICE JANGO!
Let me grab a pencel and right down bumpeffect you used! 'cause I like the skin! good job on the texturing sofar! Im not in the texturing stage yet but I will remember your project when Im going to learn how to texture... keep it up man! lttrr |
Yeh good stuff! I've been using fractals as a procedual texture on my head but I'll give brownian a go coz my guy seems to have signs of leprosy! Oh yeh and the lips look realy nice! ;)
|
yeah!!nice
learn to you |
Yeah damn nice work :))
How did you UV the head ? |
Thanks guys!!!
Caligraphics: I uv using cylindrical mapping on one half only and then planar the top section and stich those, tidy up the uv's then "- duplicate" the model, combine, merge verts, flip duped uv's and stitch together!!! Easy Jango |
 Thats tons of uv mapping. I don't think I would call it easy. I would call it a nervous break-down for me. Will the tutorial go over this?
-Cheers Mate |
ok, just curious if you had the "golden nugget of UV mapping" :)

Hey Guys
Just finished off the main skin map. Have put a 'Temp' place holder for the hair line, so the position is spot on in uv space. Then just need a few small spotty areas on the bump, not too much though and also need to get rid of the skin bump on the ears as the skin is smoother there and lips need bumping too. For all you dudes who require an insight to the way I map stuff I'll include it on the tutorial as well. More work!!! You'll have to wait a bit longer I'm afraid then!!! Enjoy the image anyway.... Jango |
Very cool man. And in the tutorial, can you put in this file? Just so that we can compare ours to yours?
-Peace |
