heehee
looks a bit like a kangaroo. Like the concepts so far, cant wait so see what you do with it

i think the one with big bright round eyes is the best of all

badtertle - cheers for the c&c :) I see what you mean, I think its the combination of the chicken leg style with the small front claw
legolas - do you reckon cuter is better for the steed? I'm still undecided about how agressive/cute it should look Just created a more reptilian look this time to see if it works better than the bird style. Think I'm gonna concentrate on the body shape and then make both a serious and cute head fit and let people see which is better suited. p.s, cant wait for my gfx tablet I ordered, painting with a mouse can be annoying at times! http://www.flash-fx.net/images/3D/sa..._concept1d.jpg |
whilst pondering the 'steed' I thought I'd go and work the current textures for the samurai model.
Added a logo for the back and will be adding some decoration to the sleeves or collar. I've been really enjoying doing the texturing - as much or more than the actual modelling! - and free transform in photoshop is a godsend ;) http://www.flash-fx.net/images/3D/sa...texture_1a.jpg http://www.flash-fx.net/images/3D/sa...texture_1b.jpg and a small version of the texture map: http://www.flash-fx.net/images/3D/sa...texture_1c.jpg |
this question is stupid, but how do you do that texture, i mean the MIRRored uv map, when you paint one side, and the other does automaticily
|
Mtmckinley shows you how to do it in his video tutorial on his site. Its a pretty good tutorial as well.
|
or alternatively just create one side of the model, texture it and then duplicate as an instance. The instance will take the texture from the original model. Then once complete just weld the two parts together (I haven't done the last bit yet). :)

wow, thanks:attn:

minor update on the sword, still needs some work but it'll do for now :)
http://www.flash-fx.net/images/3D/sa...texture_1d.jpg edit: oh and a smaller uv map with the sword bits in, still need to do the hands on this map http://www.flash-fx.net/images/3D/sa...texture_1e.jpg |
Since you had the kindness to visit my own entry, I thought I'd return the visit and say yours looks like its coming along nicely. Certainly a lot more complete than mine and he's looking quite cute with it :)

Last update tonight, been texturing the sword a little more and touching up other areas including starting on the hands (though you cant really see in this shot).
This is just to show the sword with the samurai and roughly where it would sit on him. http://www.flash-fx.net/images/3D/sa...texture_1f.jpg |
Been watching the progress on this one since it started and imust say that you have done a really great job. I admire the fact that you have stayed true to your concept art all the way. The colors and style compliment each other very well . Can't wait to see the finished result.

THX1138 - cheers man, much appreciated. I've tried to keep it simple so you could easily have teams using the same model but looking quite different (capture the flag or rather capture the temple dog in this case... now thats an idea.. ;) )
Gone back to the steed this morning and have sketched out a cute look for it. As a side project I've got some great reference stuff for a realistic game samurai in full body armour and I could probably use the more dinosaur looking steed for that. Something along the lines of Turok meets a heavily armoured Shinobi. |
can you post the drawing u chose?
|
sure joopson, here's the side view drawn in photoshop while on a very bumpy train (eye borrowed from a cool picture I found). They are meant to be ears at the top but they look a bit horn-like at the moment and under his arms are little wings.
http://www.flash-fx.net/images/3D/sa...gon_sketch.gif I've actually started modelling the basic body shape tonight, here's the current early stage http://www.flash-fx.net/images/3D/sa...te_dragon1.gif |
