looking forward to seeing the engine develop as it looks pretty detailed :)

got any closeups of the engine so we can see what you'll be adding?

A few more renders. I added a few more details to the engine, and set up the render environment. Unfortunately I can't render the whole bike with an IBL set up as my system can't handle it, so I just did it with the engine close up. I'm not even half done and the scene is already too big :headbang:

Wires are always welcome. :)

Sorry for my Ignorance, but whats a IBL set up?

Looks good man keep it up

dilberts 22-11-2005 06:52 PM

gster123. It stands for Image Based Lighting, and means the use of a High Dynamic Range Image to light the scene rather than physical lights. I just posted an explanation of the setup in the WIP forum if you want to take a look. In my opinion this is the way to get the most realistic renders. Unfortunately, it absolutely kills your RAM, and if the scene gets real big (like this bike), unless you have a supercomputer your system will often crash when it runs out of RAM during the render.

Looking at this makes me wanna quit now! :)

Still all nurbs?

Minstrel 23-11-2005 12:43 AM

This is some gorgeous work!!

THX1138 23-11-2005 01:13 AM

I tried rendering solely with IBL a while back and yep, it takes gobs of RAM. The model wasn't even that big. Now I just use the IBL sphere for ambient lighting.

Very nice job on the roadster, I would like to see a wire, unless that secret stuff that you don't want out. ;)

dilberts 23-11-2005 05:03 AM

blomkaal, yes it's still all NURBs. Converting now would be a nightmare.

THX1138. I'm sorry, I will post a wire next time I render. The thing is I don't get a chance to work on it that much because of my job, so usually it's midnight (U.S.A mountain time) before I get a chance. So if I don't respond quickly, it's not because I'm ignoring the request.

Thats cool, I understand the job situation. My Job has be busy atleast 4 days out of the week.

Cheers for that, i've never heard it refered to as a IBL render before, just started to play around with them, I'll have a look at the set up in your other post
