How old are every one here?

I´m just wondering whats the average age for maya users, also, when did you start working with maya or just 3d in general?

I´m 17 and I first started playing with maya almost a year ago but I didn´t realy learning any thing untill after I registerd here at simplymaya.
How about you?

thatdudeyoulove 30-11-2005 02:42 AM

17. Started with Lightwave in 7th grade(age 13).

Funky Bunnies 30-11-2005 06:06 AM

I'm 18 and I got started when I was 16 but let it sit on the shelf and/or modeled with primitives for basic diagrams in physics or something until I was 17.

clopper 30-11-2005 10:09 AM

I'm 26, started using maya about 3 months ago.

t1ck135 30-11-2005 10:12 AM

29, hobbyist, played with it a little last year then have been hooked this year because of the simplymaya challenges and the fact that I have lots of time to kill on trains :)

lisa_gonzalez 30-11-2005 11:01 AM

Hey t1ck135, how do you manage to use Maya on the trains? Obviously you must have a laptop, but can you comfortably use a mouse? I'm just thinking about my commute - the trains are so packed I hardly have room to play my psp! It got me thinking though, I could seriously churn out loads of work by using Maya on the train!

I'm 24. I started using Maya nearly 4/5 years ago at Uni, and I now use it both professionally and as a hobby.

kennez 30-11-2005 12:35 PM

I'm 22, and started using Maya about 2 years ago.

Supra Devil 30-11-2005 01:22 PM

i am 16 , started maya at 15 i guess

t1ck135 30-11-2005 01:30 PM

hi lisa, get yourself a mini laptop mouse as they are excellent for working on the move :)
I've got this model as I didnt want a cordless and have a usb block hung out of the back of my laptop. £15 on the site.

I'm in early on a virgin train so usually get a table or decent seat. On the way home its a fifty-fifty whether the local (old) train has tables and if they are full or not so empire or 3D world magazine is a good fallback :D

mtmckinley 30-11-2005 01:40 PM

Will be 25 this Friday. Started with Maya around 5 years ago.

EDIT:

I'm now 25. :D

flatmat 30-11-2005 04:35 PM

I'm 30. I don't remember when I started using Maya, but I've been working in 3D since I was 18. :p

magicsy 30-11-2005 08:37 PM

MattTheMan 30-11-2005 08:42 PM

Im 13 now, been using maya since I was 12, (7th grade) at the begining of 7th grade. So that makes about a year now. But i did let Maya down after modeling in primitives until about a half year ago, when I really got into it the real way.

jsprogg 30-11-2005 09:02 PM

Old enough to make up a number at my Birthday ..lol

I started Maya about 18months ago but had a break for about 6 months..so been actively learning about a year.

darijo203 01-12-2005 12:05 PM

Shadeblade 02-12-2005 02:56 PM

I'm 15 - I'm turning 16 in *Insert my current age here* days.

MattTheMan 02-12-2005 08:57 PM

Shadeblade rofl! So, if you arent Jewish, and if you are, Im verry srry... but is it one continuous party from december the 16 or 17 to the 24th? Lol! I have a friend that has her birthday 2 days after christmas.

t1ck135 03-12-2005 07:19 PM

congrats on the 25 mike, do anything good?
now you'll be saying your closer to 25 than 30 till you're 27 1/2 and then you just start resigning yourself to the fact that 30 wont be long... not being negative at all ;) (being close to 30)

mtmckinley 03-12-2005 07:46 PM

yeah, it's kinda depressing to think I'll be 30 in 5 years... 5 years is sooo short a period of time, and i've yet to accomplish a lot of things in my personal life that I'd like. Professional life has accomplished more than I would have thought at this point, though, so I guess that's good at least.

t1ck135 03-12-2005 09:19 PM

hey dont think depressed, think of what you've achieved :)
you've got a hard part of your life working well (professional stuff) and if that goes well then the personal life will start falling into place :)
better that than 25, 3 kids, broken marriage and working in a factory with no aspirations (apologies to anyone who might be in that position!)

think how many people on these boards (both young and old) asipre to being in your position and that should make you feel happy with life

mc-fleury 04-12-2005 01:48 AM

i am 15 and one month.started with maya 7th month ago.

dannyngan 04-12-2005 03:31 AM

Hey, 30 ain't bad at all! It's a good age to be. :p

t1ck135 04-12-2005 09:44 AM

nice reassurance dannyngan, I'll be there in a couple of months

twisteddragon33 04-12-2005 06:21 PM

im good old 20!

I feel in with abad crown a few years back(bryce/poser), got me interested in it. Had years of CAD experince through school and my uncle gave me a copy of lightwave he got from work. Liked it but hated the UI... a frind told me about maya.. i tried it out. Seemed to click. Been using it for a while but havent seriously sat down to learn it yet... just fooling with it for a few years in my spare time.

:D I'm not Jewish, but my birthday is on the 17th. I wish it was continuous! Talk about having CGI! No, not Computer Generated Image.. It's Consecutive Gift Intake.

I'm 23... I was feeling like this was old, but since starting my new job I'm feeling young again :). Dunno how long this youthful feeling is going to last though, I started just last week and already I'm no longer the newest employee :eeek2:

wizziebaldwin 08-12-2005 10:26 PM

All of you are SO BLESSED!

When I was 17, in July of that year, we saw the first man ever to land on the Moon. 3D drawing, in the manner it is done today, with a computer was scarcely a glimmer in the future.

You have no idea how lucky most of you are to just have all of this technology available at your finger tips.

When I was 8, you could count the number of shows on television that were in color, on one hand.

There were no XBOXES, PS2's Nintendo's or anything close to that.

When I was 19, the IBM 360, a computer that took up an entire room and had to have its programs loaded with punch cards cost roughly $100,000.00 and had a whopping 10K of memory. You could run COBOL and Fortran programs on it.

There are many days that I wish I had been born 70 or even 100 years in the future from when I had been born.

Cheers.

wizzie
