yea the glass can be made thinker as its a cube. and yeah ill add i few more edges to make the hole rounder.
Thanks for all ure help and folowing my progress really helps me get to where i wanna be.

gster123 05-02-2006 05:42 PM

Have you tried the "shatter" tool to get a random edge for the glass??

magicsy 05-02-2006 05:45 PM

no no where do i find that?

gster123 05-02-2006 05:47 PM

its in the dynamics menu, under effects create shatter, you probably would want the crack shatter.

magicsy 05-02-2006 05:49 PM

sweet thanks mate :)

SpaceGoat 05-02-2006 05:51 PM

Yeah, I've used it a few times, never had any problems with it.

SpaceGoat 05-02-2006 06:13 PM

hmm...well it was a while ago when starting with maya...now got 7 gotta try it again

gster123 06-02-2006 12:56 PM

For the smashed glass pane you could google an image of broken/smashed glass, put it into PS and grayscale/play about with it then map it to the transparancy of the cube, and then poss to the spec too to get the different reflective properties of a broken glass window??

Why model if ya can map!!

Tim_LIVID 06-02-2006 01:02 PM

Indeed, just creates more work for you.

magicsy 06-02-2006 02:08 PM

hmm yeah sounds like a great idea gonna give it a try ill let u know :D

hello all got back to my little project finally... here's a lighting update Witt FG turned OFF. just so it would render quicker so i could see how the lighting would work.. im pretty happy with the look. ill be adding a street lamp where the yellow light is, i also decided on removing the glass smashed look too. also i added some grass, :)
Let me know what u think of the lighing Note the booth will be a lot more visible with Fg on as theres a new light plus glow for the inside :)

Tim_LIVID 11-02-2006 05:05 PM

Looking good man, but as you said. Just a little hard to see the actual phone box.

magicsy 11-02-2006 05:07 PM

the renders underway now so give me 20 mins and should be up for ya. :)

SpaceGoat 11-02-2006 05:13 PM

is the sky HDRI or just a stand in...or are you doing something more dusk now...looking better and glad to see your still at it. think u made a good choice about the broken glass :)

magicsy 11-02-2006 06:01 PM

its a hdri i was trying out yeah to make it dusk but i just finished the render and wasnt happy with the results. so im now trying to work on a background similar to the field and sky in the last render. maybe without a hdri. hopefully i can get one up for tonight.

SpaceGoat 11-02-2006 06:02 PM

aw was waiting for a bit to see...a well better luck next render i'm off to bed;)

magicsy 12-02-2006 11:05 AM

made a simple background for this too maybe a bit lighter and ill be done. Let me know what can be improved.

SpaceGoat 12-02-2006 11:23 AM

another update folks!

gster123 12-02-2006 06:34 PM

Cool, have you got the street light in there yet?

magicsy 12-02-2006 06:50 PM

i have the light setup but not modeled :) as yet.
Im getting quite frustrated with the project. i just dont know how to get it looking better. Any suggestions i know about adding dirt n stuff but its the overall look of the render that is kinda too CG what do u guys think? is it realistic to u's ?

gster123 12-02-2006 07:30 PM

To add dirt usea lambert with a noise texture added, then plug the noise texture into the the transparancy of the lambert (maybe with a ramp too to control where the dirt is) then use a layerd shader with the "dirt" lambert over the material you want.

You could also usea fractual for the bump mapping for mud.

Oh Choose the colour of the dirt you want via the lambet!!

I've doen this a couple of times and it looks quite good after a bit of tweeking!

magicsy 12-02-2006 07:41 PM

thanks mate ill try these comment out.

gster123 12-02-2006 07:45 PM

I think that the leaves and the tree make it look CGI, the box looks cool.

Maybe look for leaf + bark pictures and add the textures that way??

Dont get dishartened with it just keep trying! Try using scanned textures/pictures of the materials to get a better overall texture to scene

DJbLAZER 12-02-2006 11:58 PM

The grass doesn't look realistic. Too bright and lacks shadowing. And I'm not a big fan of the graffitti. It looks like a sticker.

gohan1842 13-02-2006 08:06 AM

Yea the grass doesn't look all that real and if it's going to be growing through a sidewalk then shouldn't the sidewalk be cracked?

I also think the graffiti just looks like a sticker.
