magicsy 02-03-2006 07:19 PM

nice effort!! :D ure getting much better some good details in there, the pic quality is a bit low though u using photoshop?

WH33LS 02-03-2006 07:21 PM

nah i just took a quick test render from maya itself .. still need to tweak some stuff and get it textured before i get into quality of pics and stuff

vietcong 02-03-2006 07:58 PM

nice details...

but some of the faces look strange... looks like you have problems with the normals...

try tweaking with the "normals - tools"

edit polygons --> normals

mfg

WH33LS 02-03-2006 08:22 PM

think u can circle those sections? i'm not really sure what you mean

Rostoons 03-03-2006 01:14 AM

I think the guns come across as a bit too round. Perhaps hardening the normals as suggested would rectify that. I do like the render with all of the other guns, it really brings out the detail you've gone into.

WH33LS 03-03-2006 05:56 AM

the gun itself is pieces.. by combining all the pieces as 1 .. then hardening all the normals this way .. would it work?

i havn't been using maya for a long time .. i never used normals before or know how they work. etc .. so if anyone could give a real quick explanation , that would be great :)

thanks

oh .. and which sections do you thnik look rounded?? like the Butt of the gun (shoulder rest) and maybet he ammo clip

vietcong 03-03-2006 07:51 AM

try this:

select one of the magazines an then: edit polygons --> normals --> set to face or soften/harden

something about normals and what you can do with 'em:
http://highend3d.com/maya/tutorials/texturing/229.html

especially about normal mapping, but they explain also what normals are...

WH33LS 03-03-2006 08:37 AM

cool, thanks a lot

WH33LS 04-03-2006 11:41 AM

is unwrapping the gun's into UV maps to import into photoshop to texture

is this a difficult process?

or is this a noob question.. lol either way i dunno how to do it

i seen the texture tutorial on here .. looks easy enough,, but it dosn't show how to unwrap the model,, now what i mean?

vietcong 04-03-2006 02:54 PM

you can start with a simple geometrie and:

(1) Window --> UV Texture Editor
(2) Select your polygon model
(3) Polygon UVs --> automatic mapping
(4) Polygons --> UV Snapshot

to understand the process, but mtmckinley has a nice video tutorial about uv-texturing:

http://www.mtmckinley.net/

--> tutorials --> UV Mapping for Polygon Texturing

i also learned Polygon texturing with his tutorial... THX mtmckinley ;)

keep in mind, that maya 7 has its uv mapping tools in a seperate drop down menu (Polygon UVs)

lg

show us a render with your "new normals"

WH33LS 04-03-2006 02:59 PM

thanks .. i'll give it a try in a bit .. and post some images in a bit .. i'm currently working on a RPG-7

here's a image of the briefcase so far, the middle part is cut down , like sponge type thing .. this briefcase isn't done, and remember the case is for shooting thru, like sneaky assassination , also for carrying i guess

Dude

that water mark is offensive, regardless of its nature, can you please refrain from using it, as other members on this site may not like it. If you want to use a watermark, put your username across it or find something more appropriate. Cheers

Nice guns though, they are getting better throughout.

Jay

WH33LS 11-03-2006 01:51 PM

image shack ? where is that ..may i have a link jay ?

WH33LS 13-03-2006 03:05 PM

just a quick texture question, i'm gonna try to texture my Mac 11, as it's basically one color and not much texturing needed i don't think

BUT

would you suggest texturing the whole thing at once, from a uv map

Or
select each side of faces, texture that side, then move to the top, select all the top faces and texture that, let move to the other side and seleect all those face and texture that, etc ?

WH33LS 13-03-2006 11:51 PM
