This is my second model i did and i rendered in mental ray for the first time, clay model. what do you think guys? this is a just a quick preview, i'll render a good one later. I saw this robot in a movie called Blue, so i decided to model him with some diferences.
Comments are all welcome.

pbman 20-03-2006 05:33 PM

happymat27 20-03-2006 06:08 PM

I worked through that one too pbman, yay for the blue robot!!

Nice going Masteryoda. As pbman said it is nice that you've added your own details, it'll be nice to see him textured.

Take it easy,

Mat

mmoore5553 20-03-2006 10:43 PM

where is the tut for this ? i love the little robot ..good job there

lordliquid 21-03-2006 02:27 PM

did you use tutorials or what?

mmoore5553 21-03-2006 07:46 PM

Curious can anybody answer this question. I love this robot and wondering if there is a tut somewhere or did it come from a book , if so which one ?

Masteryoda 21-03-2006 07:58 PM

No I didn't use any tutorials, I heard there is an alias book with a simple tutorial about this robot, i did this model from screen shots from the movie 'Blue'. and added some details.

happymat27 21-03-2006 10:36 PM

The book that the tutorial is in is 'Learning Maya 7 Foundation' (retails around £50), I'm not sure if the tutorial's on the internet at all.

What other 3d packages have you used Masteryoda? The models you're producing are way more advanced than those made by someone who has never touched 3D before. It would be cool to see some more of your work.

take it easy,

Mat.

I use only maya 6.5 and render in maya, been using maya for 2 months but this is the second full model with no help from tutorials , for now i'm just modeling rather than texturing and animating, trying to master modeling thats why for now i only place clay renders. I'm using GI Joe to render them. To texture i got a Wacom tablet and use photoshop CS but know only basic skinning.

farbtopf 22-03-2006 11:19 PM

The robot looks very nice, I like the detail in the hands and the knee joints. I especially like the 2nd render.
How do you clay render with maya software? Is there any tutorial that teaches how to achieve this clean yet natural look? Cause I wanna learn:D

arran 23-03-2006 04:08 PM

Great work mate - looks very good.

Masteryoda 23-03-2006 05:04 PM

I rendered the robot with maya software, but used GI Joe for lighting, I downloaded the mel script from highend3d.com
rendered in production quality with importance to the shadows, default lights are turned off to use just the GI Joe lighting and the surface must be ALL Lambert1 and intensity is 3.5. Hope this helped.

mmoore5553 23-03-2006 05:27 PM

Thanks master yoda ...looking for that as we speak. wondering how you did it . i am really impressed with the robot.

errethakbe 23-03-2006 06:03 PM

that looks really good! i'll need to get that GI Joe
how long have you been doing 3d?

Masteryoda 23-03-2006 07:32 PM

I have been using maya for 2 months, Now I'm doing a pulse rifle from the aliens series, i got the progress posted in the WIP.

farbtopf 23-03-2006 10:53 PM

Thanks for the tip on rendering I'll trv that out as soon as I can. Maybe you should try and model some designs of your own.
Do you really live in malta? Must be nice, but how do you stay in front of the computer in summer;)?

Masteryoda 24-03-2006 04:31 PM

Yep I live in Malta and the only one who uses maya here :) but actually I'm from London, I was born in the london hospital in Central London.(loads of londons) My parents are maltese, but i'm british, In summer i still stay in front of my pc under the AC :)

farbtopf 24-03-2006 07:57 PM

envy envy, malta is nice, I've been there when I was like eight or nine. Regarding the summer, I was more curious on how you stop yourself from hanging outside and on the beach:D

mmoore5553 02-04-2006 12:38 AM

i just ordered maya 7 foundations just to learn how to make this robot .......paid 50 bucks for it shipping and all woohoo
