Not bad at all, really! If you're going for photorealism, be sure and match those stone textures!

Again, not bad at all!

S3rj_T4nKi4n 30-08-2006 04:18 AM

nu update... more coming in the next hours :)

I think the pic got some more shape :)

HI! Im back from my holidays... so wasnt able to do that much.

http://img138.imagevenue.com/loc484/..._122_484lo.jpg

New Things:

I added The sculpture-Heads (Ok at mom its only 1 head but I never modeled one before.... keep that in mind!!! I will add different kind of heads later)

and I began to model the top of the bridge. But here I got a very big Problem!! I hope some of u guys could help me with that!

Maybe someone knows how I'm able to model that "snail-shape"???

http://img24.imagevenue.com/loc537/t..._122_537lo.jpg

Thx for comments :)

starjsjswars 08-09-2006 02:13 PM

Dont model it, just use a good bump map, its not that detailed.

S3rj_T4nKi4n 09-09-2006 01:25 AM

@starjsjswars I dont know exactly what u mean with ur comment! Or didnt u recognized, that u can click on the images to make them bigger?! :D

@Jay ... Yeah I tried to create a displacementmap ... I realized thats very hard to create a smooth "snail-trail" ^^ from black to white... but it looks like Ive not better possibility...

Thx anyway!

I will try it that way again

Jay 09-09-2006 04:15 AM

Just do a bump map insted of displacement

Jay

S3rj_T4nKi4n 09-09-2006 07:16 AM

@Jay: ok I'll try that later when I start texturing. Thx

my work for today:

(and for those who dont know how to use the preview image ;-) , just click on it and it will become bigger)

it looks pretty good! after playing around for about 20 minutes, i came up with a fairly simple way to come up with geometry that fairly resembles that 'snail shape' you were looking for... i know jay says just to make a bump map, but that would be kinda hard too, wouldn't it? a radial gradient that spirals in? hmm. *shrug*

anyway i used the cv curve tool and drew a spiral (i used x to snap to the grid so it would be less guesstimated), then from the side view, i raised the middlemost vertex about .25 of a unit, and while it was still selected, picked the next one in the line and raised that about .25 (so the first vertex was at about .5 now) and did that til all but the last one were raised... after that, i just applied a bevel to it and messed with the values til it overlapped itself. lemme know what you think, it didn't take too long to do at all (half the time i was screwing around i was trying a loft with duplicated curves and even a flare deformer on a poly helix, which didn't look TOO bad...) so you could give it a try without wasting too much time if you don't like the outcome.

S3rj_T4nKi4n 10-09-2006 11:49 AM

Yeah thx for ur help! ... I had some same idea and played around with curves but wasnt that satisfied. But as it seams Ill give it a try once again... even because I didnt make it with photoshop. U cant create a snail-path, because u have to go the same shape back again to close the curve ... this is not easily done.

I think it will be ok this way, because its not that important if its perfect... its just a small part in that image...

Big THX anyway :)

looking really good mate ....nice job and good detail work so far

S3rj_T4nKi4n 17-09-2006 03:54 PM

Hi Folks! :D

I was sick of modeling, so I started Texturing + lighting ;) ... I will add datails in modeling later... cant wait to see how it maybe looks like someday :D

just a fast 10mins rendering low- detail/resolution/HDRI ;)

so dont say it looks like **** just a small mood-rendering

enjoy...

@Jay ... dropped idea to model those snailtrail... used a bumpmap as u said... I think it looks good... no original but some kind of artistic liberty :D :D :D

http://img136.imagevenue.com/loc470/..._122_470lo.jpg

gster123 17-09-2006 08:10 PM

Looks good man!

Any chance of showing the bump map that you used?

S3rj_T4nKi4n 17-09-2006 11:15 PM

Sure I'm able to show u on next monday... when Im back at work

marlonjohn 17-09-2006 11:22 PM

hahaha i like the detail on it :) done an amazing job...
i was just wondering if you could render it bigger because its abit small.

cheers

S3rj_T4nKi4n 21-09-2006 03:40 AM

yeah sure ...u get what u want :)

If u wanna know ... atm I only used 1 hdri-image to enlighten the scene ... the prob here is that its a very low-quality one and ... that the funny thing about it... its a kitchen scene ;) :D ... but I liked the light a lot, so I used it ... bad thing about it ... ive to switch the colors in photoshop, cuz the heavens not blue, but orange :D ^^
Later on i'll fix that ;) and use a better one...

at first her's the bumpmap for gster123:

http://img106.imagevenue.com/loc593/..._122_593lo.jpg

and here the latest rendering...

http://img139.imagevenue.com/loc469/..._122_469lo.jpg

enjoy :)

gster123 21-09-2006 06:17 AM

Cheers Man, but I cant see it?? Might be me?

The render looks really good, Nice one.

S3rj_T4nKi4n 21-09-2006 06:29 AM

I updated it...

Very cool.

S3rj_T4nKi4n 22-09-2006 02:05 AM

DJbLAZER 22-09-2006 10:31 AM

Definately on the right way, I'm impressed!

Keep it up!

S3rj_T4nKi4n 23-09-2006 04:07 AM

HI! I've created the first sculpture... modeling would be too hard for me, so photoshop helped me with that... :)

Done with txture+bumpmap+displacementmap ...

http://img28.imagevenue.com/loc343/t..._122_343lo.jpg

also textured the poles...

http://img145.imagevenue.com/loc315/..._122_315lo.jpg

ciao S3rj

pbman 23-09-2006 04:50 AM

looking sweet if a little clean

but brill model

S3rj_T4nKi4n 23-09-2006 05:18 AM

Im going to add the right texture later...

now I create textures from toe to head, so to say :)

started with the bottom floor near to the water ull see tomorrow what ive done :)

S3rj_T4nKi4n 24-09-2006 02:22 AM

Soooo.... cant see the caribbean-water anymore ... and replaced it by ugly dirty water ;)

also created first part of the fade from water to the left house... and on the small bridge

enjoy...

http://img127.imagevenue.com/loc481/..._122_481lo.jpg

pbman 24-09-2006 04:59 AM

lloking cool
2 things i notice are
the boat doesnt look like its floating to me
2) in the archways/doorways the textuture looks stretched

marlonjohn 24-09-2006 05:42 AM

hey S3rj_T4nKi4n,
looks marvelous my friend. love the updates when they keep coming...

i just compared both of them and i noticed that with your picture there isnt much ripples in the water as your reference picture.
(you dont have to add them in, i just wanted to point it out :P)

cheers ... marlon

S3rj_T4nKi4n 25-09-2006 10:47 PM

Thx for the comments :)

@pbman

I didn't texture that part actually, or just put a normal texture over the hole building.

But thx for that with the boat Ill fix that ...

@marlonjohn

yeah ur right atm the water surface is totally flat ;) I didn't fix this jet...

S3rj_T4nKi4n 28-09-2006 09:07 AM

Here we go again...

added this figures left and right of the bridge ... some more bumpmaps and a better dirtfade.

and actually a lot more dirt everywhere :D ;)

The fog was created in PS

http://img44.imagevenue.com/loc330/t..._122_330lo.jpg

S3rj_T4nKi4n 29-09-2006 10:19 AM

Update :)

fixed a lot texture-mistakes and changed some bump-map-values

now Im gonna add detail to the small bridge and the boat...

http://img151.imagevenue.com/loc498/..._122_498lo.jpg

Bye S3rj

NeoStrider 29-09-2006 11:59 AM

simply amazing. you're doing quite a fantastic job... one question i do have, though, is how far back does your geometry actually go before you use an image plane for the buildings in the background? (i'm assuming you are, cause if you modeled it all, that's a little too time consuming for my tastes - even though it looks wonderful)
