well after all my previous failed attempts at car modeling i figured id make my fav compact car the renault clio:attn:

ive been literally just messing aroud with extruding beveling and smoothing cubes for practise at the best way to do all the curves and suchand heres what ive got( by the way i know that theres some bumping in the fender area- ill be fixin that in 10 mins or so):

Hey there acid,

looking good so far. One thing I would comment on though is that you seem to be bevelling edges before you've blocked out the whole object, this could cause issues later in the modelling process.

If I were you, I'd get the whole car built low poly and then start smoothing out the edges.

Take it easy,

Mat.

last update for tonight: worked more on the backk and side/roof... gotta wake up in 5 hours so goodnight for now:zzz:

jsprogg 12-09-2007 06:16 AM

A very nice start but I would definately block in the whole car and do a test smooth to see what needs to be sharpened up before starting things like beveling and adding detail.
The mesh looks really clean though so don't get too tempted to detail it too soon.

why? whats so great about linux maya?

AnthonyCg 29-09-2007 11:04 AM

Well, all of the Maya programs are the same, but Linux has a more stable environment than Windows. On the other hand, there arent as many Linux apps as there are Windows apps.
(Less that even Mac.)

DJbLAZER 29-09-2007 04:43 PM

Programs crash in Linux too ya know... a bug is always a bug.

you know what was funny about when maya crashed?...i actually threw up about 10 minutes after i posted... i only remember cause it just happened again(and i vomited again), well at least this time the flow is a little better and i saved about half way through...

i have 2 problems though

1. the wireframe display is messed up... it cutting out parts as you can see in the pic

2. when i open certain scenes they wont run propely unless i have the attribute editor opened (the scenes run slow and when i drag select the colours in the work window get screwed up) unless i have the attribute editor open ittl run slower than a 2 million polly scene so i know it isnt my cpu. alsoi have my display at 1280x1024 and when i set it to 1024x768 the problem goes away but i cant work at 1024x768 the workspace is waaaaaaay too small... any help:confused: :headbang:

okay, so, finally an update... however minor it may be...

gster123 02-10-2007 05:25 AM

YOu might have an extra node attached somewhere, have a look in the hypergraph and see if theres something attached to the geo that dosnet seem right, delete it and than have a look.

Ive had a similatr porblem once wuere when I smoothed a mesh it reverted back to smoothing an old version, god knows how I did it but the old mesh was attached as an imput to the newer mesh, once I deleted it in the hypergraph it worked fine.

Wheres an update. Is there a ice age in canada right now or something?

03-10-2007 11:50 PM

no, no ice age, just really busy:beer:

gster123 03-10-2007 11:55 PM

Take it you sorted your problem out.

I was thinking the other day if your using 2008 have a play with the smooth poly preview and the crease edge tool and the slode edge too adjust areas to get a nice flow.

I'm gonna be giving it a go with a car I'm making in a while.

05-10-2007 09:42 AM

i havent even looked at the smoothe preview yet thanks for the idea man:beer: and no i didnt sort out the problem but as long as i restart maya ever 1/2 hour or so its fine:headbang:

i pressed 3 by accident trying to switch to wireframe mode and i almost... (insert naughty word here)ed in my pants... why didnt i know of that before?

anyways... UPDATE: not much but took a good hour and a half... i cleaned up the bevels and some other mesh on the door and mirror...

gster123 06-10-2007 08:50 AM

Thats what I was telling you about!

Also the crease poly edge tool might help you out getting nice sharp edges, oh and the slide edge tool will help you out making the geo nice and even.

louis56 06-10-2007 11:07 AM

Nice mate!!!

marlonjohn 06-10-2007 11:51 AM

Man i want to start a car now but i first gotta hit myself because i gotta finish off some other stuff first...

Just curious, when you finish the car are you going to make the inside?

06-10-2007 03:37 PM

i said it to you on msn but i want to make it clear if anyone else wants to know:

yes i plan on doing a full interior and other extras on this car im going to be going all the way this time rather than just the body modelling like usual:beer:

louis56 06-10-2007 03:44 PM

What class are you in now?

09-10-2007 12:33 AM

louis56 09-10-2007 01:04 AM

:headbang:

Whyd you get kicked out of school? Smoking in class ;)

09-10-2007 01:51 AM

surprisingly no...

they had me in a behavioural class and my teacher was being a bitch (they have a teacher for every 3 students and when i asked for help she ignored me, even when i went to her desk and started yelling she just sat there) si i stopped showing up... the way i see it is i go to school to learn not to be ignored...
