A know is born...

The other knobs are a bit tricky... but I CAN DO IT!

mirek03 05-02-2008 11:41 PM

but can you dance to it..,?? :)

nice opportunities to do some nice lighting or?and renders eh??

That last knob is a real nightmare to model. I tried a couple of times but failed miserably...so I started texturing and playing with some materials until I got an idea how to do it.

mirek03 06-02-2008 10:53 PM

is the texture a projection??

gubar 07-02-2008 01:01 AM

Looks really nice so far.

Can I ask you how you created the metal shader for the dials? They look good and I've found metal tricky to create.

Also, could we see a wire frame?

One more question - when you model, do you always model with smoothing in mind? I ask because I see that some people model using bevels and aim not to smooth, and some create a base for smoothing... it depends on the purpose I know, I'm just interested and learning about different approaches.

thanks,

gubar

mirek: Since the panel is just a plane (with holes) it's a plane projection... if that's what you mean, and then painted in Photoshop.

gubar: Since I render in Maxwell the shader differs completely from Mental Ray or Maya Software, but I downloaded a gold foil shader from Maxwells site which I have modified.

I always try to model with smoothing in mind since if you only use some bevels and the model is "unsmoothable" you've set a limit to how close you can render the model.

Here's some wires

wire

if you only use some bevels and the model is "unsmoothable"0

can you explain what you mean by that.., im having some trouble with smoothing at the moment.., to the point that it has wasted so much time its ridiculous.., and i have noticed that just because maya 208 has a smooth preview.., it certainly doesn't mean thats how it will look when iys smoothed

as a matter of fact im going to start a new thread because im having a lot of trouble smoothing and getting very odd results.., verts sticking up all over the place.., like they have smoothed in the wrong direction

yes., i just wondered if you used a projection as a texture because of course it being a flat plan was sort of begging for it.

:)

Haven't tried smooth pervis since I use Maya 8.5.

You should do some reading and learn the basics of polygon modeling to understand how things will smooth.

With "unsmoothable" I mean that the model isn't modelled with smoothing in mind and thus will look like crap when smoothed.

Finished the button panel texturing.

ouch - that is looking very nice DJ. you might want to send that over to afx. :)

DJbLAZER 07-02-2008 09:17 PM

Thanks arran! hmm... afx?

arran 08-02-2008 10:50 AM

afx is a musician who uses the TB-303 and other roland synthesizers in his work. he is also rumored to own the extremely rare and expensive Yamaha GX1. definitely worth checking out. :)

Oh, that's a synonym for Aphex Twin :D, yeah I have a couple of his ablums, nice ambient tunes...

So, the texturing is done except that logo :) that I can't find the font for, so I'll just have to hand paint it... and obviously some positioning is needed on some places.
