Also one thing i wanna ask is HELP in this thing..
Im having problems with the textures in the display, some times in some proyects they work fine and in others, like in this one, the textures in the display are show with other colors, with distortions, like this example, dont why this is happening but i cant continue working like this.
In the render the textures is fine, it the display, but I NEED to see the textures in the display, I have to make the hair of the character, with texture maps of leaves and I can model and put them in the right place If i dont see the textures.

alexanderH 26-02-2008 06:55 AM

the texture problems you are having on that plane as far as i have experienced is because there are no subdivisions on it.
If you add some more geometry to the plane the texture should render just fine and should display properly.

As for the model, it looks really good. The ears look a little funny to me because the rest of the face seems to be so common - for a face anyways. But I like the detail.
The hat looks really good too, can't wait to see some textures on that.

The facial textures could use a bit more attention like you said. The eyebrows look a little funny, though the lips are looking pretty good. You might also want to add some colour variation to the texture on the face.

The hair sounds like a cool idea, can't wait to see it.
And let me know if adding subdivisions to your plan helped with texture display.

Thanks man for taking the time to write all of that.
Well Is not that, because that happens to me soooo often, like in the eye, it is a nurbs ball, and the texture display so bad, but in the render is fine. Here I put you another example, look in the uv window, and the display, but the render its fine. My 3d card is good enought, and have the latest driver. I also use lightwave, and in lightwave I dont have this kind of problems with the display. Man i really need to fix these..

alexanderH 26-02-2008 07:10 AM

would you mind sending me the file to alexanderhosking@hotmail.com and I'll take a look at it. I mean things look like they should work fine from what I can see here. But if I can dig into it a little bit I may be able to troubleshoot for you today.

Cheers.

kazama 26-02-2008 07:12 AM

Ok man I will send you the scene of the plane with the eye texture.

Ok well I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little confused.
I am running maya 2008 and it works just fine when I open the file in it.
In the attached image on the left is your plane, on the right is the one I created and simply applied the material to.

kazama 26-02-2008 07:39 AM

Mmm.. I supose that was going to happend..
Can be something with my video card?
Some jpg files works sometimes, that eye texture is a png, so maybe is some information in the files, dont know.. for example the print screens I made of the face of my character, the ones I upload here, thats jpg files has no problem in the display, I just mapped that to the plane and work fine.

alexanderH 26-02-2008 07:58 AM

Well frankly I am thinking it'd be a software problem. Some settings could be a little strange.
I tested this in 2008 for both Mac and PC and they work fine. It also displays fine in Maya 8.0.
On my mac it has no video card really. Just the onboard. So I'm positive your video card is better than that.

I know nvidia cards have issues in Vista with maya 8.5 and under so if you apply to that rule that could be causing you problems.

But I think you may want to check out the autodesk support site and see if anyone can help you out with this one.

Sorry I'm no better help. I gotta go out now but I'll google it up when I get back and see if I can find anything.

Cheers

An update..

alexanderH 26-02-2008 02:47 PM

It's looking really good.
Only one thing I can suggest, is around the eyes maybe try fading the green out so it blends in more.

Just a thought.
It's starting to take great shape. Keep it up!

marlonjohn 26-02-2008 04:30 PM

Nice design and looks great all together,

Only crit would be the modeling...how you attached the ear, looks abit odd i think.

kazama 27-02-2008 07:52 AM

Thanks guys.. I will look into it.

NeoStrider 27-02-2008 10:14 AM

for the texture display problem, search the forums for 'maya env' or 'non_power'

NeoStrider 27-02-2008 11:03 AM

hey i found it for ya... if you're using maya 7.0 this should fix it

this is a non power of 2 problem. i had it on my computer as well, you need to add a varible to your Maya.env file.

go to "My Documents > Maya = maya.env" file and edit it so you have this string in it

"MAYA_NON_POWER_TWO_OFF = 1" (without quotes) save and run maya again.

hopefuly this will help, apperently this has something to do with graphics drivers and compatibility with non power of 2 textures, in other words if its oblong it will render it as a power of 2 texture and skew it. supposedly after the 7.1 update this was fixed.

kazama 27-02-2008 01:08 PM

Thanks man.. I will look into it, and see what happends. Hope that will do the trick.

kazama 29-02-2008 12:39 AM

Dude I have one question.
I should save that file as a txt file? When I open the file is like a blank txt. I just type that and save it as a txt?

NeoStrider 29-02-2008 05:55 AM

you should be able to open it and save it... if it saves it as a .txt file, rename it as .env when you're done or maya can't use it.

kazama 29-02-2008 08:14 AM

Man thank you sooo much! That did the trick.. I can see the textures now in the display.
I was having this issues for sooo long, but now finally im working fine.. Thank you again.

I love the scarf/head wrap texture. It looks great. Everything looks great.

Good job on the textures, this is really starting to shape up

kazama 01-03-2008 07:47 PM

Thanks man.. Im glad you like it.
Still Need more work.. sooo some updates are coming soon.
Some guy told me that the space between the eye and the nose is too big? I think maybe he is right. But dont know what to move there..

AikoWorld 01-03-2008 08:09 PM

your ears are to low, they should be levelled to the eyes,

nice design you have here.

kazama 01-03-2008 08:12 PM

Yes man I think maybe you are right.. I should move the ears up a little.
Thanks man.

Well I Push a little up the side of the face to try to make that part between the nose and the eyes much shorter?
Dont know is the model is looking better or what?

Im made a couple of minor changes to the eye area, and the cheeks. I Like the way the face is looking now.

arran 04-03-2008 11:06 PM

nice job kazama - i like the hat texture a lot. the ear still looks a little far back in the side shot though.

NeoStrider 07-03-2008 03:22 PM

i think i agree with arran. if you take your fingers and measure from your eye to your ear, you'll find that it's only like 3 inches or so - so her ear does seem a little far back in the head.

other than that, it's modeled and textured well. looks good!

Another update

DJbLAZER 08-03-2008 04:46 PM

Looks nice.

However I think the nipples should be placed lower and outwards IF they should be visible at all, which I dont think they should.

How did you do the fur? Maya fur?

kazama 08-03-2008 04:50 PM

Thanks man.
Yes ai think you are right about the nipples, I will look into it.
Yes the fur is maya fur.. do you like it?

NeoStrider 08-03-2008 05:06 PM

looks pretty good! the grassy outfit trim definitely matches the leafy hat.

kazama 08-03-2008 05:10 PM

Thanks dude.. I think Im going to model a belt maybe.. and maybe a staff. Im also thinking in what type of set im going to built.. not sure about that.. maybe some trees in the back..

kazama 10-03-2008 02:54 PM

1st render

1 Attachment(s)
Well, this is like the first Full render at my witch character.. His name is Kate, also know as Mother Nature.. She control the forces of nature using green magic.. also she can comunicate with animals and can call for their aid when help is needed! :)

Im going to model a couple of more things, like leaves on the staff, and a couple of other stuff. the character is not rig yet.
Sooo maybe is missing a little bit of expresion in the face?

Commets plz.

arran 10-03-2008 03:43 PM

ha ha - not bad kazama! :) I like the grass frill around the edge of her dress. and the overall scene. might be fun to have a few of her animal friends - some squirrels, birds, a dear - sitting all around her like in a cheesy disney cartoon...
