Harley Quinn (Trick or Treat?)

hey All

taking a break from my other work just to stay fresh and fancied creating Harley Quinn from Batman.

This version however will have a twist, as Im hoping to do it in a Chris Nolan style and set it up in for a more realistic world instead of a cartoony style. So there'll be a few changes here and there

the whole model here has a few problem areas from a basic rig, most notably the wrist and the shoulder, but its not a massive prob as this will be going into Zbrush for alot more work and make over.

cheers for now
Jay

Rhetoric Camel 08-08-2008 06:35 PM

wow that looks great, I don't know where I would go with it in zBrush, looking forward to seeing more done to this.

Jay 08-08-2008 06:40 PM

thanks Mike

Im really hoping to go 'outside the box' on this one and not do the expected...

cheers
Jay

Mayaniac 08-08-2008 06:43 PM

Looks great Jay!

Would love to see some wire!

Jay 08-08-2008 06:52 PM

Cheers dude, will post in a while..

definitely makes me jealous, if I could model that well I would have thrown some hair on her, textured and called it a finished model.

Gen 08-08-2008 10:33 PM

This looks great, I can really appreciate the way the legs were done, though something is bothering me about her breasts, the way they're kinda just rigidly sitting on her torso, maybe a little puffiness for areolas would be nice too :x.

vladimirjp 08-08-2008 11:06 PM

ooohh...
looking lovely Jay.

might i suggest one thing? bigger knockers!

Jay 09-08-2008 05:17 AM

Bigger Knockers eh and puffier nips, sorry, yah not going to see them once I get this more underway,

Cheers all for the comments so far
Jay

Chirone 09-08-2008 07:09 AM

you started her from scratch or modifying an existing model?

it makes me jealous, that's for sure ;)

it's a creepy pose though... or maybe that's because she has teeth that stand out and no hair

Jay 09-08-2008 07:45 AM

Bit of both

Some Guy 09-08-2008 08:30 AM

Looks like a good start.
Just one question for those of us not educated in batworld...
who exactly is Harley Quinn?

Jay 09-08-2008 08:53 AM

The Jokers Female sidekick

look it up on google, but this wont look like it once its done

Jay

Some Guy 09-08-2008 09:58 AM

Cool,
Looking foward to seeing your own twist added to this.

younglion 09-08-2008 11:49 AM

Jay 09-08-2008 05:27 PM

Thanks Guys

Thats cool, in my opinion you got a lot of detail out of the trunk of the body while keeping it pretty light, sweet.

Jay 09-08-2008 07:14 PM

heh thanks...

just practice and references....

Jay 18-08-2008 08:05 PM

Hey All

Just got back from soaking up the sun in Fuerte Ventura so hope to have some updates on this shortly...

cheers
Jay

Jay 19-08-2008 05:58 AM

just having a look in Zb at the texture for her face atm. once this is done I'll transfer it to the main skin texture and overlay it. Im not going for total black around the eyes, I'll probably settle for a deep red....

Modelling will continue tomorrow!!!

Mayaniac 19-08-2008 07:27 AM

Looks great ATM, Jay. Really looking forward too seeing how this turns out. Nice to see how more experienced character modelers get it done!

murambi 19-08-2008 01:57 PM

wow looking great cant wait to see the finished model of this....oh are you using zbrush with xp or vista cause i upgraded to vista and zbrush won't work

Jay 19-08-2008 04:24 PM

Thanks Mayaniac,

I really want to keep her as a 'beauty' and not a beast as such. Harley Quinn is actually a good looking villain but just a psycho in terms of being like the Joker, Im actually going to take the lip texture back as I'd rather keep her feminine, but smear it a bit more as if she kisses her victims before putting their lights out.

Murambi: Thanks, Im using XP. Check out www.zbrushcentral.com they may have a help forum there with regard to Vista

Jay

younglion 19-08-2008 10:34 PM

nice work jay, i was about to ask whether you were gonna give her the scars that joker had on his face, but as you stated youre gonna keep her as a beauty.

Jay 20-08-2008 12:36 AM

Hey Young Lion

Thanks dude, hope to have an update soon

Jay

Jay 20-08-2008 02:08 AM

Bit more 'dirty paint work' for the texture overlay in ps. Moving onto the model...

Cheers

small update on the wrist and shoulder areas from the first post (not that you'll see them in the final really) just for my peace of mind

Jay

lealar 24-08-2008 01:46 AM

Really good model, very clean job and hard.

Jay 24-08-2008 01:28 PM

Thanks Lealar

okay so the Court Jester Hat is basically being replaced by girly pigtails, Im going to cross the colors over black into red and vice versa and layer it up then add a normal map, heres the start of it.

Cheers

dbsmith 25-08-2008 12:32 AM

Im loving it bro! Superb modeling.
Am put off by the pigtails at the moment, but im sure they'll come together soon

gster123 25-08-2008 12:45 PM

Quality Jay!

Rhetoric Camel 25-08-2008 02:10 PM

looking good so far. how is the hair being done?

Chirone 25-08-2008 07:51 PM

personally i think pigtails mae a girl look really childish, which i suppose is the look you're going for?

by the looks of things the hair is currently a surface that has been a victim of the rake tool in zbrush?

THX1138 25-08-2008 07:55 PM

Very Nice work Jay! What happened to the space pirate project?

Jay 25-08-2008 10:32 PM

Chirone: erm no.....just my own alpha. The pig tails are a replacemnet for her jesters hat. The idea is to have a psychotic girl, its not all hardcore

gster123:
cheers mate

Rhetoric Camel: Thanks, the hair will be poly with a map. Then retouched in PS, its just a one off image so....

THX1138: Cheers. The space pirate stuff is on hold for now as I need a break from it, its been constant for that project for 3-4 years...

cheers
Jay

gster123 27-08-2008 08:14 AM

Hey mate, what Material do you prefer to texture on, I cant seem to get one that makes a nice representation of the final map in maya, always need to do a bit (quite a bit) of a correction in PS

Jay 27-08-2008 08:37 PM

Hey Steve

I just use the standard grey or the toy plastic, the white plastic is probably the best for the intial process. When I want to see it in a better shader that simulates skin I just use something that looks okay.

hope that helps
Jay

gster123 27-08-2008 10:54 PM

Yeah thats what I use too. I some times switch to the flat shader just to see any gaps.

Hoping that 3.5 has more texturing possibilities.

Jay 28-08-2008 12:15 AM

3.5? have I missed something?

Jay
