Starjsjswars(under attack)

I will be facing daverave as a fun learning challenge for the both of us.

The rules are,

deadline July 20th
Objective create a missile\torpedo to blow a car, spaceship, boat, sub, airplane, etc.. up with maya
Texturing outside maya is allowed
There will be a poll to determine the winner

I'll post my work once I get some time to start this project this week.

I'm really looking forward to this.

Haha, I just got alittle base going, heres what I got, I'm making some sort of fighter. I'm going to be using different model planes as references, not going to model a actual real plane but a combination of them.

bullet1968 27-06-2010 01:30 AM

Looks good mate...bahahaha I thought Dave had the jump!

Looks like an F-15/Mig 29 hybrid with a dash of F-14

cheers bullet

Edit: you might want to resize your pics??? they might delete them

starjsjswars 27-06-2010 04:17 AM

Thanks, got some more done, I'm really not going for realistic as far as the style goes. Here is what I did, I'll post more tomorrow. I'm still not sure if I'm going to end up with this style, just getting some ideas out there for my self.

Thanks for the feedback

daverave 27-06-2010 07:01 AM

Good start,I can see why you thought 4 week was to long.......dave

starjsjswars 28-06-2010 03:43 AM

Thanks.

I think I might end up just modeling the MIG-29 Fulcrum. I think it looks the sweetest of all the other planes that I've come across that have somewhat high res blue prints.

I'll post some more progress tomorrow or the following day.

bullet1968 28-06-2010 03:50 AM

I agree..of all the modern aircraft she is the nicest looking!!!! Look up the Su-37 mate!! she is a pearler as well

daverave 28-06-2010 09:35 PM

Hi Bullet
Yes thats the one for 1960 it was way ahead of its time, might not look as mean as a MIG-29 Fulcrum but it looks cool to me.........dave

bullet1968 28-06-2010 09:49 PM

Yeh I read a little on it..seems the Americans pushed throught the F-111 but they made the Tornado instead (which is a great plane). The Aussies took the 'Warpig' (F-111) and some are still in service...they are the meanest looking of the swing wings..take a look at the Su-24 (Fencer I think),,its almost a replica of the F-111 but has a 'Foxbat' kind of shape.

The Su-37 is the plane though,,grab a look at what it can do in flight on youtube...bloody amazing plane

cheers bullet

Little update, this is really just the base base mesh

daverave 29-06-2010 08:29 PM

Nice update, how long did it take you to do that..........dave

starjsjswars 29-06-2010 09:16 PM

I'd say a good hour or so, maybe more (not counting setting up the references and collecting them (that took to long haha)

heres a update on the wings

http://s4.postimage.org/paCXr.jpg

starjsjswars 30-06-2010 10:44 PM

another update, I still have to fix alot in the underbelly of the plane... but I'm pretty happy with this so far I'm not going to add alot of detail just because I don't want this model to take for ever to make.

*edit* Yea I forgot to add I'm adding alittle spin on this by spin I mean not going to model exact like the real thing b\c lack of info

http://s2.postimage.org/c01BS.jpg

bullet1968 30-06-2010 11:10 PM

daverave 03-07-2010 06:43 PM

Hi starjsjswars
Looking good, are you planning to blow all of it up or just a bit........dave

starjsjswars 03-07-2010 08:10 PM

The whole thing, I was planning to have hit get shot then just flame from front then have the missile nail it to heck... but I'm worried that might push my dynamic skills to much, we'll see :D thanks

Perfecto 05-07-2010 07:45 PM

Looks like you're getting close to being ready to start the explosion work. Model looks pretty sleek, keep it up.

starjsjswars 06-07-2010 12:09 AM

I've been doing some texture tests even though I still have to model the missiles and the missile holder things. I'm pretty happy with this... although I might decide to change it later.

My next move is probably model the missiles or work on the fluids for the heat ejectors.

*edit* Thanks alot perfecto! I forgot to add that in there :D

bullet1968 06-07-2010 12:41 AM

looks bloody nice!!! wish I was that quick!!!

missiles and missile rack

cheers bullet

Edit: I believe the sidewinder (or equivalent) can be either wingtip mounted or carried in a pod underwing...some else can clarify that.

daverave 06-07-2010 06:46 AM

That does look nice, shame to blow it up.........dave

starjsjswars 07-07-2010 09:22 PM

Thanks.

Here is a small update this looks really bad without the occlusion pass.. but here is what I have for the missiles so far.

http://s4.postimage.org/NhDsi.jpg

Oh and btw the texture isnt a different color its just me playing around with the light's colors :D

daverave 07-07-2010 09:34 PM

Looking good starjsjswars
If I were a betting man I think I would put my money on you to win a the moment I need to catch up....................dave

bullet1968 07-07-2010 09:51 PM

Hmmmmmmmm...I love gambling...which is why I dont but yes dave Im with starj ATM. You need to get a wriggle on dave

starj this is too nice a looking plane to blow up...then again exploshuns are ffuuunnnnnnnn. Does look super though mate.

cheers bullet

Perfecto 11-07-2010 03:51 AM

Looking sweet. And adding color to the light is a good way to add some more realism to the image. I can picture it in my mind with the Occlusion...very nice work so far. Watching you and daverave is great.
