I like the steel and the green anodized paint look. the rust could possibly use some bump to rough it up.
Thanks for the little PS tutorials I have been playing with them. |
Thanks ctbram
Have not had a lot of time today to do much more, yes a bump map on the rust and were the paint has come of if done right will bring it to life, I must admit that if you know what effect you need you can find most for free on the net, Once I have finish this I promise to do a tutorial then I can get back to my tank still looking for a good scale ref for the M151 weapons system......LOL Thing to do Finish of metal Dirt map Bump map Final gather render (never done one but looks easy)........dave |

sorry had to start doing some stuff for work.
this could just be a long running challenge for people to practice texturing. btw, here are some instructions i've made on how to do rusty scratches. take 3 images, I have a base metal, rust and some metal scratches. http://i51.tinypic.com/dcvmg1.jpghttp://i55.tinypic.com/2rcvolj.jpghttp://i56.tinypic.com/rhlw0n.jpg copy and paste the rust onto the base metal as a new layer http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29.../copypaste.jpg add a layer mask http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...28at093245.jpg go to the scratches image and desaturate it, then crunch the levels so you have a high contrast. Now select all and copy. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...rror/desat.jpg go back to the rust and metal pic. click on channels and show visibility on the layer mask. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...28at093402.jpg paste in the contrasted scratches. (i have inverted the image too) http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...28at093608.jpg if you hide the visibility again and tidy up the edges. you should have something that looks like this. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...28at093732.jpg obviously you can work this around what you need to do. hope it helps. one more thing... does everyone know how to daisy chain bump maps? |
wow hammer...cool thanks mate!!.
no that was a query I was going to post...in Maya I assume you mean (daisy chain bumps). I have 2 that I wasnt to assign to the main texture...but failed. cheers bullet |
Nice effect hammer, mine is lacking a few scratches might use that method..........dave
|
Thanks hammer.
I am starting a photoshop tips folder, so I can start collecting this stuff and start trying to learn it. Going to play around with some stuff and yes keeping the can hanging about as a practice piece is a good idea. |

I looked at this on my brothers monitor and realized the green gun on my monitor is failing. On my machine the green looks like a dark forest green. On my brothers system its more an light olive drab.
Funny thing is I like the darker color. Not so funny thing is I now realize I am l going to have to replace this monitor and that is something I cannot afford right now. Oh joy! |
green gun?
|
So everybody else doesn't have their monitors setup wrong after all? ;)
