Flying Things - Jake
Woot! Another challenge and a very broad topic. Guess I'll hit up the drawing boards tonight :) should be fun.

I think I finally got an idea put together for my entry probably going to call it SteamPig.
|
Here piggy piggy

I started working on the pig today got a little bit done.
|
Hard to see... is there a reason why it takes up a small part of the image?
|
A bit more detail, and a team opportunity
1 Attachment(s)
Okay here is a close up of my pig with a bit more detail I am assigning basic shaders to help distinguish.
Team opportunity: I suck at texturing so if anyone actually wants to try this teaming up idea I could use a texture artist and we could divi up some modeling on the flight machine I have a basic sketch but I am open for ideas as well. Just a thought let me know if anyone is interested. Thanks :) |
Piggy: Just about complete

Here is another update on the pig. I better call him good and actually start working on my flight machine as it wont do me much good to have a pilot without an aircraft.
anyways wish me luck I don't typically model vehicles. I welcome any constructive crit please feel free to let me know what you think Thanks :) |
Start of the Flying Car
1 Attachment(s)
Started working today on my flying car. I decided to use the chitty chitty bang bang car as a reference since I think it is so cool I am pleased with my progress so far.
Take a look at the car http://www.onlytoptens.com/wp-conten...bang-bang.jpeg and here is my version so far |
haha, that looks great Jake! Dave's walking around singing chitty chitty bang bang now :)
|
Haha, I get it...When pigs fly! Very witty.
|
I liked the car bro. Keep up the good work. Hope i will upload some progress soon, stuck with the machine gun for 2 days :S
|
LOL Dave singing I bet that is a sight to see. ;)
@CT yeah I thought it would be pretty funny to see a pig fly that was my idea. @Goggles what part of the Machine gun are you stuck on? |
I made a big hole below the body with a door opening. Unfortunateley, the hole is too big to fill with stuff :) I'll find a solution for that for a time...
|
Bang Bang with wings :)
1 Attachment(s)
Still working on the Bang Bang Car I got the wings attached few more details and then on to the part that will kill me...... Texturing :( ugh
anyways have a look and let me know what you think Thanks |
wow, looks mean! I'm impressed
|
looking really good Jake.
I feel your pain when it comes to texture painting. I am not a painter and my finesse with a pen tab is about the same as a brain surgeon trying to wield a scalpel wearing 15 pound boxing gloves! But hang in there! |
Sweet work! The back seat hole looks a bit pinched in some places and too smooth in other places. That's all my crits.
|
LOL looks sweet mate.....on with it..dont give up!
|
Thanks for the comments. Lol 15lb boxing gloves that sums it up about right.
@Stwert Thanks for pointing that out I've yet to really work on the backseat I'm not sure what I should put in it. Any ideas? I believe I am going to have the pig in the front seat flying but I might be changing the design of the pig go for less man pig and more pig pig anyways we will see. Thanks again. |
You could make it like a mother-in-law seat and have it folded down
|
1 Attachment(s)
Here is another image I decide to go ahead with the Mother-in-law's seat for the back of the boat I like how it turned out. I also added a door to get in the back as I am sure any elderly mother-in-law would not appreciate having to jump over the edge. ;)
Now just on to model some luggage and then I guess I can't put off texturing any longer. Please let me know if anyone sees anything out of place. Thanks |

here are two more shots close ups on the headlights. I have recently discovered that finding the perfect shot to show off your detailing as well as the overall picture can be infuriating
|
Still impressed, I am.
Really nice details |
That looks realy nice and so fast..............dave
|
Have to say that's looking sweet.
|
Well as I have thought texturing is a beast but I think I am starting to get a hang of it. I have a question about BumpMaps however.
Is there a value in maya that you can adjust to decrease the influence of a bumpmap? Right now I keep going back and forth between photoshop and renders trying to figure out the perfect shades of gray, which of course is very annoying. Anyways any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :) |
If you click in the arrow by your Bump Mapping channel, you will get taken to your file node, then click on the forward arrow beside the file textbox, then you will get taken to your bump2d node. There you can adjust the Bump Depth. (You can also access the node in the hypershade, but this is fast, although there's probably a faster way).
I often end up using something like 0.2 for the bump depth otherwise it's so extreme, but of course it all depends on your project. |
Thats a bloody sweet model jake....nice man
cheers bullet |
Folding Wings ???
1 Attachment(s)
Okay :help:
I got a question for the forum does anyone know the best way to animate these wings so they can fold together and tuck up underneath the chassis of the car? The metal rods need to maintain their shape while the cloth can go slack as the wings fold. Also the helicopter blades are going to fold down and then the rod will fold into the grove I think I can handle that much but the rest seems to be beyond my current skill set. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :) |
if you can find what the folded position is that you want then you could probably do a blend shape with the wings.
|
Well the deadline is coming up soon I've gotten pretty busy with other projects but I guess I better get back to this and tie it up.
How is everyone else's coming along? Any updates? |
Short Animation

Okay so here is the car with some textures applied I think this will probably be my final entry not sure it depends on how busy I get next week. Anyways have a look here of course critic is always appreciated.
Bang Bang Car - YouTube |
good job Jake.
|
Excellent work, that looks really fun. Only crits on the video I think would be the car seems to be floating (I know it can fly, but it's just a smidgeon off the ground). And the camera moves don't seem to show off the car as well as they might, especially the turn after going underneath, it pans off the car.
But all that to say, well done for finishing! It's a rare feat around here. |
Hey Jake, please post your final entry here before the end of the week
http://simplymaya.com/forum/showthre...374#post336374 That's very funny by the way :) Cheers, Nilla |
