Looking mighty good bud.

adldesigner 11-05-2003 02:45 AM

Why don´t you try a MR-based GI solution?

I´m sure it´ll be a bit taxing on your resources at render time, but if you work with small renders before throwing a big one, you could achieve pretty good results bud.

I suck at mental ray mate hehehe...

Witchy 11-05-2003 02:22 PM

Looking great! This is a super thread to follow along with. Any tips for UV unwrapping and painting?

Kurt 11-05-2003 10:49 PM

Witchy... Uv map are tme consuming just use a lot of planar projections and make the map as flat as possible. As for paint I use maya for the basic layout of different colors than bring the file into photoshop for adding details.

Witchy 12-05-2003 02:03 AM

So do you map each projection seperately or do you take them and adjust them into a single texture map for taking into PS? I find laying out UV's very difficult, all this cutting and sewing always seems to go strangely wrong. I have the UV map tut but I am still not quite getting there.

Kurt 12-05-2003 02:11 AM

You have to break up the parts your trying to lay out to get a nice flat map, using planar projections.. once you have them all projected yes you have to do a tone of sewing to do.

Like I said it a very time consumming...

NICE, how did i miss this whole thread!! Anyways, great job kurt! I love VIVI :D.. he was originally just called the black mage in FF1.. or it was black wizard. Anyways, he was a awesome little dude.. Other than that though, i notice that your model could be squished down a bit, and also has a straight back, when vivi actualy has a major hunch, as you can see in that refrence picture that vector provided :).. lookin realy good though kurt.

howardporter 23-05-2003 04:20 AM

it looks like he modeled the clothes. as far as i seen work of kurt he usually models the cloth, maybe because maya cloth usually does not fold so nice.

Vectorman 29-05-2003 05:05 PM

i'm sure he modeled the clothes by hand......

Kurt 29-05-2003 05:19 PM

Few of the maps... And yes the foldes are modeled....
