Joining the Car WIP's

very impressed with some of the car work here

i'm working on a Porsche 911 but i going overboard and working from the ground up

working with nurbs exept for the nuts&bolts{easyest to get the nut shape ;) }
so i started with a wheel
http://www.mayaxtream.pwp.blueyonder...emp/brakes.jpg included the brakes then i got to working on the suspension and ended up with
http://www.mayaxtream.pwp.blueyonder.../frontsus2.jpg

i know don't look much like a Porsche yet but i'm hopeing to get there,, planning on making the front end of the body over the next few days

caligraphics 09-06-2003 09:38 PM

man you are crazy :P

aldudeau 09-06-2003 10:12 PM

awesome

ereitz 09-06-2003 10:23 PM

respect.

like how you chose to build from the ground up. seeing how you've tackled the chasis so far i've no doubt this is going to be one hell of a vehicle.

Kevin 09-06-2003 10:24 PM

wow dude!!! you going for the full detail!!!

well it looks great although i cant comment on how realistic it is (except the wheel) as I havnt a clue how it looks under it :)

but the wheel looks awesome

Forum_snowboarder33 10-06-2003 03:23 AM

2 words.... holy crap

Gforce 10-06-2003 04:36 PM

little update been a working on the body for a change

thanks for all comments

roach105 10-06-2003 05:12 PM

oustanding...keep it up

twisteddragon33 10-06-2003 10:00 PM

very nice. are you goint to make an engine too?

how did you make the model btw?

howardporter 11-06-2003 03:50 AM

Gforce--- some people call what you have a sickness (obsessive compulsive) but I call it GENIOUS!! you are sick.... and talented. way to go you psycho!!!

Cyrius 11-06-2003 02:57 PM

SO CRAZY YES !!!!! how did you do the wheel ????

Gforce 11-06-2003 10:38 PM

roach105 ........i intend to ;) for a while anyway ;)

twisteddragon33 yup intend making the engine and gearbox just not to sure of amount of detail yet ;)

howardporter psycho!!!......... sounds about right for me :)

Cyrius wheel was easy ....simple cv curve revolved end resilt tweeked a little to give it the bumps then a number of shaped nurb cylinders were circular filleted through the revolve job done ;)

wheel before the circular fillets

slight update .......not done much today was nice so went out :D but i did get round to starting work on the hood and reshaped the innerfenders/strut turrets
http://www.mayaxtream.pwp.blueyonder.../temp/hood.jpg

should have more soon ;)

danunzio12 11-06-2003 11:06 PM

g force you should do a tutorial or something i bow down before your awesome talent all i ever made of a car was the bumper then i got frustrated.

BeAstMaSter 12-06-2003 04:59 AM

hehehh , the man definitely has talent, and patience 'cause he helps a total noob like me thru my lame Q`s ;)

and I wouldn't call him psycho unless he uses a green shader :)

genius995 12-06-2003 07:48 AM

 wow! This is really looking great!
Really cool dude!

A question:
what's the best/easiest way to model a car? polys/subdivs/curves?

Cyrius 12-06-2003 09:04 AM

i think there isn t any best way to model a car. Do you prefer polys/subD/curves ? that is the question ! :)

Gforce 12-06-2003 09:11 AM

my personal ...........and thats all it is "personal" choice is nurbs but that mainly cos it's the only way so far i have tried to make a car
tried it liked it stuck with it ;)

but as Cyrius says it's really down to your personal choice there is no best way only what you are comfy working with and only way to find out is to try them all till your happy ;)

Forum_snowboarder33 12-06-2003 09:50 PM

How did you make the shader for the car? Cuz i want a shader like that (in the blue or green) for my crx project

BeAstMaSter 13-06-2003 12:14 AM

that's it , I'm completely convinced on the psycho part ,
but don't worry, I won't tell our mutual friends :D

snowboarder , I might be wrong as I'm a complete noob but I would think this just a Phong or PhongE shader coloured

Vectorman 13-06-2003 02:20 AM

this is gonna be photoreal i can tell...

Gforce 13-06-2003 05:10 AM

shader is one i got from somewere a while back just played around with a bit it's a layered shader phong for the col and a blinn for the gloss
http://www.mayaxtream.pwp.blueyonder...emp/shader.jpg

Forum_snowboarder33 13-06-2003 06:20 AM

could you possibly give that to me? or upload it at SM. PM me if you just wanna directly send it to me - or instant message on AIM at SnowboarderCF

contrast 13-06-2003 12:56 PM

Gforce, it looks phenomenal!

How do you handle the thickness of the model? Are the edges curved in to give the illusion of thickness in the "plates" or do you model the backside of each "plate"? Does that make sense?

Also you have some beautiful curves that can transform into sharp edges. How do you do this with nurbs? Do you create your seam there and have a separate nurbs surface or do you clump CVs? Looking at the suspension I can't figure it out.

Do you know how many nurbs surfaces you have there?

Gforce 15-06-2003 09:12 AM

Forum_snowboarder33 yup ya can have the shader will drop ya a PM for your email and i'll send it to ya

contrast as for thickness ot all depends on were it is eg back of front wing is panel bent round to give it thickness but at the arch and seam at the bumper that is a circular fillet and trim

??not sure exactly what you mean here

and as for how many patches .............errrrrrrrr NO not a clue but there are a lot :bgreen:

Gforce 15-06-2003 09:36 AM

to give an idea as to how many patches here is one of the suspension arms split up

http://www.mayaxtream.pwp.blueyonder...p/sussplit.jpg

shothole 17-06-2003 05:53 PM

holly crap this is some of the best looking modeling i have seen !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! great work
i bow down to you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
can i ask you to post that shader up somewere please as i would love it aswell im trying to model a mini !!! (trying)

Vectorman 17-06-2003 06:13 PM

Gforce he's right you know, this is TRULY amazing work, how do you have enough time on you're hand to model EVERY SINGLE PART!?!? You really HAVE to find an Xray shader and render it out, so we can see all the parts (when you're done). I say a kid do this with a gun he made. It was a cool gun, and there were a couple of pics, and the last one was a transparent blueish, and you could see he modeled all the innards of the gun!!! I was quite a plesent surprise!

danunzio12 18-06-2003 07:50 PM

Any tips on how to start with nurbs modeling of a car? Also you must have a ton of time or you are just that damn good :-)

Gforce 21-06-2003 07:28 AM

thanks for the coments first sorry for late reply been in bed for the last week ill so no updates either

i wouldn't say it's that good as there are plenty places need refineing but i'm improveing i thing as i redo bits

time ..yup i have plenty time on my hands but saying that the bottom arm thats in the split screen grab{{ last pic}} took about 10/15 mins to make due to trying diffrent ways of modeling it now i have the method it would take about 3/5 mins :)

hopefully i'll get some update done this weekend

BeAstMaSter 21-06-2003 08:29 PM

well , we can say it's that good :p
I find most "artists" over-criticise their work
awesome level of detail going here, and hopefully you'll post hints on how you model some of these objects :)

illustrativ 24-06-2003 07:45 PM

Nice Car, i am inspired now to try and model a Car. Hope to see more soon.
