i don't know for your first question but for your second, yes subdiv primitives is a feature in 4.5 and 5.0 unlimited but i'm not shure if it is in complete, it should be in create>>subdiv primitives...

ok i found it it looks i thinking maybe you put the marking menu files from the cd in the wrong place to test my guess hit ctrl-z and LMB and a marking menu should pop for creating nurbs objects

i found another way tho and it has to do with making cube subdividing it converting to a subdiv and converting it back to a polygon

from what ive experianced in maya and gaming the NVIDIA video cards are awsome...if you do alot of gaming then thay are great beacase the openGL abitities and 3d rendering and built in...

have you tryed deleting the history on it? that might work
