I'm not sure on the ATI but there is a similar card installed on a machine at uni that appears to run Maya quite well with no probs but i'm not sure if its fully supported (check out alias's site for info on qualifying cards)

I do know that the Quatro range of cards are fully supported so go for one of these if poss as its a profesional graphics card and not a high end gaming one

Many consumer level video cards are not officially supported by maya but may still work perfectly. I got GForce 6800GT 256MB and I'm totally happy with it. Haven't encountered any problems even with hardware rendering.
