Hey, great start! I was thinking that you were modelling gutsman until you said it was the robot guy off that movie . you could do a boolean subtraction to get the hole of the eyes, or you could do what you have done, then select the verts around the eye.. and use the scale tool and move tool to make it look like a circle . Keep it up .

BTW.. i changed your title name.. I spell noobie as newbie too.. but everyone else has went with noobie and it has been around for a while so i just made that change . Best of luck.
