I have no experience at all using efftects. But if I was to go ahead and try something, maybe you could create the actual obect first. Then apply fire to the entire surface with different strengths. Then hiding the object, but leaving behind the fire. Then maybe creating a wind effect.

I don't know. Just my thoughts. I haven't gotten as far as effects. Not quite ready for it.
