ok, for me i had to remove my custom preferences,
(my documents>maya>maya6.0>prefs) just rename the prefs folder, but you do lose your custom things, like shelves. until you name it back


or sometimes, u just have to go to modify>manipulators>show manipulator tools, but that didnt work for me
