ehhh....
although I've never really used either, I'd reccommend using a 'bend' (I believe its actually called that, or used to be) deformer. It should give you a little more control over the way the leaf and branches bend (I think....). Also, I believe softbodies are usually used during dynamic simulations - in other words, when things run into them, and stuff - you'd have to make the frog have 'weight' - he'd actually have to be affected by gravity, etc, for that to work. (I think...)
