Faulty ram sticks aren't uncommon. I got two faulty sticks from a very famed manufacturer when I upgraded to my current system. I couldn't believe it but after I got new ones (warranty replacement) thing have been slick like goose's sh1t user added image

As tariq suggested, try the new stick alone and see if it works at all...
