Thumbs down Deformer help

I am trying to create a lattice for lip synch. I have all the faces that make up the mouth selected but whenever I try to create the lattice it says no deformable objects were selected. Aren't faces deformable objects? Same with clusters.

Also, this one is very important, how do you make a movie file of an animation or scene? I want to show off my work to other people. Is there a certain plugin that turns scenes into .mov or .mpeg files? please help me.

I believe using vertices should work with lattices.
