Introduction to Maya - Rendering in Arnold
This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

Making a hole

Hi

Can anyone help, I want to put a hole through an object. Normally if I want around hold I make a cylinder move it into the position I want the hole going through the object I want to put the hole in, and I select the object I want to make the hole and then shift select the cylinder and go Polygons, Booleans, Difference and this normally works fine.

However a few times now, if I have created an object and model it, pull and push vertex extracting edges and face etc and then I want to put a hole through something and I repeat the steps above the original object disappears completely. Can anyone through and light on whats going on.

Thanks
Trikeman

yes i know exacatly wants going on, ther object your trying to use booleans insnt completly sealed shut, for example if you were using two halfs, and combined them you wount have to use merge around the half part because there is actually two verticies there, so you have to find out where its not connected and connect those parts

Still not quite sure what you mean? Do you mean my first object, like in my current situation it is a cylinder which I have been extruding faces and edeges of is not sealed or do you mean I have not completly jioned my second object onto it. In which case I did'nt think you had to. Sorry if I sound a bit thick please could you give me some more info

thanks

yes the onject are not completly together if you want to join two object use booleans union, to join them if you just use combine the u cant use boolean on that object again untill its sealed, basicly it has to be air-tight sometimes of u conbine two object the vertices can be in the same place but theyare still 2 verties and u to only have one
