Default How to use Final Gather

Im quite new to the whole final gather stuff, so id like someone to kinda give me a breif but very specific explaination on how to use final gather and sort of show an example or 2 of how the out come would look..

i do modelling but im trying to get better with rendering and lighting..this would be great help!
