Default Objects importing as single mesh. How to avoid?

I am trying to import this model into Maja:
http://gunpoint-3d.com/model-PBoat.html

but if I translate it into .obj format using Qick3D Pro and import it, I get the message that a single mesh was created, which makes selective shading of all the parts impossible.

How can I solve this?

Thanks, Graham
