Extrude edge

Noob question:

When I want to extrude some faces, and I click on the center-circle it centers or on an edge, or on the center of my grid.
But what I want is that in centers in the object i'm currently working on...

Any ideas?

To be honest I have heard of this problem with Maya 8 and it seems like its a bug with the programming.

You might have to have a look ofr updates on Autodesks site..
