need help with maya

I have a lot of 3D total textures downloaded and i want to use it in maya, but have no idea how to do that, can some one help me with this problem, how to import textures in to
maya.

textures are applied to the color attribute of a material created in the Hypershade (Window > Rendering Editors > Hypershade). Then you apply the material to the object and the texture will be applied with it.

I have a basic hypershade tutorial at my site (although it's rather out-dated), but it still applies for the most part.
