Default help in viewing

I set up a plane and added a lambert. I can see the image in the perspective view but when I press the spacebar I can't see the image and none of my views are labeled. IE front, side , or top.
can someone tell me what I need to change to see the labels in my views?

Arrow im no expert but

you will need to hit 6 in each window as they each hold their individual settings ... as to labels dont know mine are never had to deal withit i will watch this space for an answer
