Default Soft Modification Tool

I'm confused about my book again I just can't move on until I understand everything. Heres the sentence:

Soft Modification Tool

The Soft Modification Tool lets you push and pull geometry as a sculptor would on a sculpture. The amount of deformation is greatest at the center of the push/pull, and gradually falls futher away from the center. The corresponding action is Deform -> Soft Modification

Deform -> Soft Modification?????

Is this a node or an action. I can't seem to find this anyway in the UI

under the animation menu set, there is a tab called 'deform', you can find soft modification under this tab.

You seem to have lots of questions about this book, are you checking the help files before you post here?

BTW, what’s the name of this book?
