Ogre with rounded edges...

At last I have started doing something in Maya again! All the LOTR hype made me decide to do the Ogre model in the 'Maya Fundamentals Book'.

I have a slight problem though, have a look at the picture and someone tell me what it is. I have followed the tutorial very closely but it seems when I have extruded the neck edges the corners have gone rounded... even when I deleted any polys created on the seam.

When I get finished I am gonna change his features to make him more Gollem like (my version not the film) and rig and animated him. I have always wanted to do that in Maya.

I think some of the Verts need to be merged.

go into vertex mode and trying moving one and see if one is left behind.

Yup, looks like I did sumink not quite right! BTW does anyone know of how to make Maya only select vertices that are facing you rather than including hidden ones behind. Its just than when you drag a marquee around some vertices that are facing you it will also select those behind that are hidden from view. C4D has a way of toggling this on and off, I just wondered if Maya has the same thing.

In Polygon mode Select the edges and go to polygon>Merge Multiple Edges. You may need to change the settings in the option menu.

Jagged Edges

O.K. so over Christmas I got on with finishing my Ogre from the 'Maya 4 Fundamentals book', takes abit of getting used to polygons seeing as I am used to splines from A:M.

Anyway, I decided to try the new Smooth Proxy Tool that comes with 4.5 having seen Jason Busby from Buzz3d.com demonstrate it. Makes life a little easier, but it can be slow on the redraws of edits. Thing is now I have noticed spikes appearing on the seams of my model. I have made an instance of the model for the right side so that I can see the symmetry of my model better, but when I use exponential method for the polygons I get spikes! If I change the method to linear they go away.

I am not too worried by this anomaly since when I finish the model I will tweak the seam anyway, I just wondered what I have done to cause it - any ideas?
