Sculpt Geometry tool on a point cache - doesn't respect local space?

I am trying to sculpt geometry on an object that is point cached into the scene. During the course of the movement, the object flips over...when I sculpt the geometry of the normals outward, this outward sculpt turns inward when the object flips over. Its like my sculpt push is in WORLD space, rather than simply pushing outward along the normals of the object in local space. How do I fix this? It is so frustrating!
