Fatal Error

I've encountered this error while trying to render a scene:
Code:
// Error: *Fatal* (mental ray) : mental ray encountered a fatal error. _
The system may have become unstable. Please save the scene and exit Maya. //
I've restarted the computer and tried it again but the same happens.
I'm using Maya 8.5

Any ideas?
Benny

When in doubt, delete history and freeze transformations.

I think I've found the problem - I had four ramp textures attached to the same 'place2dtexture' utility. I wanted to see if it was possible and Maya software render didn't seem to have any problems with it.

OK, there's now a purpose for this word in there.
The error is back again and this time there's nothing special about my shader networking...
