Default LayeredShader

When I create my layered shader system and apply the logo phong and the orang color phong I middle click and drop into the image and it turns white like it is suposed to then I go to the psd file and middle click and drop into the logo for a transparent and then drop my layered shader into the image and it turns grey! What am I missing or not setting the layered shader to so it accepts both the orange phong and the logo image to show through. this is a follow along video by Digital Tutors intro to maya 2.
