Default Adobe Illustrator objects way of center

Why is it, when I import an object from a .ai file, it comes up way off of the pivot point, and what can be done about it? I have the illustrator object perfectly centered on the artboard.

just go to modify>centre pivot. Then 'x' key snap it back to the centre of the grid...easy
