Question How to emulate a dia projector

Hi all,

this is probably all too easy but anyways, here we go... =)
I'd like to emulate a dia projector, i.e. projecting
a texture like the checkerboard onto a small rectangular
part of the scene ( plane with sphere on it ).

By the way, how can I alter or detach a texture once I chose one for a light source's color ?
I can't figure out why it's not obvious at all how to do that...
