Default show manipulator tool

hi, when I hit extrude and it displays the show manipulator tool, I get one with a move rectangle in the middle instead of a scale cube.
I need it to be a cube so I can scale the 3 axes at once, how do I change this?

After you extrude, simply click one of the scale cubes you see. Once you do this, the one in the middle should also become a scale cube.
