Just an fyi, those mysterious "lines" you see are Maya's renderer choking on a fluid-voxel-grid intersecting with standard geometry.
A friend at a local effects house told me once that to get rid of them, he had to increase the fluid-voxel grid planes, and they needed thier renderfarm to get it done on time, because as we all know, when you make your fluid mesh denser for finer quality, the longer the rendertime
