Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

FF7 Reactor

Hey guys,
Now im finally not distracted by life and tutorials time to start a project that im actually enthusiastic about! I found this site called Creative Uncut which is a good resource of concept art for computer games. On it i found this image of the Mako Reactor and ive decided to make it 3d!

ok modeling progress so far. there are so many small pieces that im trying to decide on my process for texturing as doing UV layouts for everything i think will be a waste of time. We will see when i get to it user added image

Ok so looks like ive made a newbie mistake. i forgot to set the image plane to fit the resolution gate and i cant get what ive already made to fit after adjusting. So its restart time!

Somewhat frustrating but at least i know slightly better how its built up so the rebuild should be slightly faster and possibly better user added image

Ok so the rebuild is turning out much nicer than the oringinal (gotta love it when mistakes turn out for the best!) will post some pics hopfully tomorow if not wednesday. Much more detail and much cleaner modeling.

Also there are some huge perspective problems with the pic whilst im building so its starting to become more as a reference than template.

Ive put a few lights in just to help me visualise how its gonna look 3 point lights with decay (1 blue near the bottom) 1 above the pipes and 1 above the door. Finally an ambient light in a green tealy colour.

Enjoy!

Looking good thus far. Should be a nice piece when it's done.

Thanks guys, im starting to think ahead to texturing whilst modeling the last few pieces (few pipes and the gears). I noticed that all the walls are a different materials, Brick, concrete, Metal...etc. which to me makes no sense what so ever. Why would a building have such different materials? So im gonna play around and see what looks best but have it more consistent.

With regards to lighting im just going to light it to make it resemble the original as closely as possible as the lighting doesnt make 100% sense either.

End goal is more realism and im actually dreading the texturing user added image

perhaps it helps contain the Mako, or maybe it's old legacy building pieces from the older reactors and it's only been partly upgraded.

Ok Chirone, i will do a few different versions on the walls and see which i like the most rather than keeping true to the original with mistakes in. user added image
