Complex UV Layout in Maya
Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

How can I obtain soft edges on complexe nurbs objects?

Hi,

I'm a new comer on Maya and in this forum also. This makes several weeks i'm working on complexe IGS objects. They are integrated in Maya as nurbs objects. My trouble is that, the edges of the objects are very straight .
Is there a tool to make edges smoother ?
I would like also to keep them as nurbs and not to convert them to poly. This is mainly because i have a uge amount of objects to work with in the same scene.

But maybee this is not a usefull?
Is there another way by texturing or rendering parameters to obtain a more realistic form ?

thx for any help

Ps, I LOVE your name! hehe.. ZOLTAN! hehe..
"He jumped us, and stole our Bubble wrap jumpsuits!" hehe..

Anyway...

You can do 2 things:

1. Select each object by itself, and turn on "Display Render Tessilation", and tweak your tessilation from there to achive a smoother surface, as Maya converts your objects to polys anyway upon rendering.

2. Convert to SubD.

Hope these tips helped out a little... user added image

oh yeah....

ZOLTAN!

Wouldn't expect my pseudo had such impact user added image

i'm not sure to know what you refere to:"He jumped us, and stole our Bubble wrap jumpsuits". I choisen it because of David Blair caracter" Zoltan Abaddin" in Wax movie.

Thx for the tip, I have a go on it right now.
Just a question: Does the subdivision surfaces are less expensive to render than nurbs ?
Indeed, I don't know even more if nurbs are faster to render than poly; as I had read many contradiction about it.javascript:smilie('user added image')

Wasn't Zoltan also the name of the Coin-operated fortune teller machine in that Tom Hanks movie, "Big"?

True also Nitro! Good eye!

The "Zoltan" I refer to, is from the movie:
"Dude, where's my car?"

Zoltan was the name of the leader of the nerdy group of cult-members obsessed with the trinkut from space.
