Robot volume one Beveling Issue

Nothing but this happens when I bevel the exact edges that the tutorial said I should bevel. All I know is that the faces are non-planar, there are no ngons and the clean up tool did not seem to help me, unless I am using it wrongly.

There did happen to be a few edges with zero length, but when I tried to bevel those edges properly this time, nothing happened user added image
