Black-widow

I’ve always been scared to death of these things. So I guess that’s why I’m so fascinated about them. Decided to model one.

I had to reread your post to fully appreciate that I was not looking at a photograph of an aracnid. Impressive. Cudos!

i like that modeling; i had that spider once in my hands, and it's really scary.. well.. of course, is so small that it can't bite u anywhere, just in the more soft part of ur body, like the hand (the part that comes before the wrist), ur face, and so on, but anyway, when the death is walking over ur hand, it scares a lot.

Thanks for all the nice complements. There were a couple of times when I was modeling this my mind started playing tricks on me and I would feel something crawling on my foot and legs.

Right now I’m in the process of making a small animation of this.

Looks really nice!

How did you model all the tiny hairs on the body and legs?

Fur?

The material focuses the light too much, making it look more like a plastic toy, you should make it less focused.. it could be also that the bump map is too intense..

also, the abdomen doesnt look at all attached to the body..

Not bad, but if you were using reference photos you'd realize that the Black Widow spider looks more like this:

Nice job. I would work on your lighting, though as your highlights are blown out in the scene (the ground).

Thanks everyone! I had fun modeling this.

I do need to work on my lighting. (I’m still a rookie) The ground is just a picture, so I think that’s why it looks so bright.
Here’s the wireframe…
