Introduction to Maya - Rendering in Arnold
This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

cartoony

I started sketching thinking that i'd do a realistic model, but it turns out i cant draw like that. I think it would be best if i go with a more cartoony style. Heres a quick concept

PROBLEM

I thought this would be a good excuse to learn the new toon renderer stuff, but i ran into something weird. I chose the one color option and applied the outline to it, but another color randomly pops up in a few spots.

If anyone knows whats going on please let me know, or if anyone knows a tutorial for toon shading.

I'd hazard a guess and say it might be that you have a hard edge along that line. Try softening it and seeing if it helps.

Looks like a Normals problem. Check to see if any are inverted. If thats not the case, try softening your Normals.

I havent worked on this for awhile, I live in San Jose, California, and he have been having one helluva heat wave. I dont have air conditioning in my house and having the computer on is as bad as having the oven on, not to mention that my computer overheated and shut down the last time we topped 100 degrees. At least theres ac at work.....

anyhow, i dont think that its a normals issue, i hit soft all and it didnt do anything to help, although i learned that if you reverse the normals , it will put the outline there regardless of the angle the camera is(they normally disappear if your looking at them head on). That will come in handy for the smile lines. In a few days when it drops below 100, i'll rework the topography a bit. I found a narly 5 sided poly. maybe that will solve that ugly line, but im still confused with the little dashes around the mouth and neck.
