Introduction to Maya - Rendering in Arnold
This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

This is coming together rather nicely.

Though the sails aren't doing it for me, but the rest is good.

I'm looking forward to seeing this turns out.

Nice work!

Thanks, Mayaniac!

What is it that's wrong with the sails for you? Could it be because they aren't smoothed?

Oh? What's wrong with the color? I turned the blueness off.

I tried to put the bump maps on today, but something really weird is happening. At first I thought that I just completely forgot where the bump map goes on the material, but it turns out it's just some error. Here's what shows up in the SE after opening the material and letting it sit there for a while (don't ask me what's going on user added image ):

Code:
// Error: 	tokenize $upstreamPlug "." $buffer;
 //
// Error: "$buffer" is an undeclared variable. //
// Error: 	string $bump2dNode = $buffer[0];
 //
// Error: "$buffer" is an undeclared variable. //
// Error: 	tokenize $upstreamPlug "." $buffer;
 //
// Error: "$buffer" is an undeclared variable. //
// Error: 	string $bump2dNode = $buffer[0];
 //
// Error: "$buffer" is an undeclared variable. //
gster, do you know what this means? user added image

I dont know what its relating to but the codes saying that it cant find the $buffer variable.

It could be something to do with the image type that your importing??

No, I mean there's nothing for me to put my bump on. Here's a pic:

You're telling me! I though my color-blindness was really getting to me! user added image

It's just a blinn on a new scene that I opened up. I opened up another scene that I had some bumps on, and it shows the same thing, yet I can access the bump file and change the settings on it.

When theres strange things afoot with maya at uni the bes tthing to do is move the prefs folder out of the maya folder (in your docs) so ther eisnt one, then fire up maya again, it resets the prefs, and see if that works, if it does it means re-setting all your prefs but at least its working

If not you can just ciopy your prefs folder back over, and carry on scratching your head.

I've seen a similar thing but its a windows display setting so not much help on a mac

Steve, you're a life saver! Took me a while to find the prefs folder (for some reason they buried it in some foreign folder). Went through and moved around some files and it happened to be the last one I looked at (seriously, it was the last one I copied over), which was the pluginPrefs.mel file. I reloaded my plugins and found out that it was my Maxwell plugin.

This, scared the crap out of me. In my next project I wanted to mess around with Maxwell, and here it is screwing Maya up. So, I got an update to the plugin and the day is saved!

Thanks again! :attn:

No probs

A lot of strange maya behaviour can be solved by doing that.

I once managed to do some MEL that buggered it up so much I couldent get maya to do anything, deleted the prefs and it was back as nw, its a bit of a paint re-setting your preferences but at least it's working.

Dunno why the folder was burried away, maybe its just where its placed on a MAC system.

It was in the Library>Preferences>Autodesk>maya>2008 folder BTW.
