Ok, heres my main idea.
I'm going for a day-for-night look with small cracks and spray leading up to a big gusher and debris falling down with larger cracks and chunks following.....

it'll take some work, but it should be funuser added image

very nice, clean visualization. just for the previs you rendered that fine detail in the water with realflow, didnt you?? of course you did...
